This is only a 'basic' level of cover, and is not represented by the club to adequately meet all members' needs, which depends entirely on the member's own personal circumstances, such as whether a member
The Hockey WA group insurance plan 'basic' level of cover provides the following benefit level
The Club urges all members to carefully consider their own personal circumstances as to whether they have adequate insurance cover for injury from playing or training for hockey. This is an individual's responsibility and is not a club responsibility. Hockey WA have advised us that there have been a number of instances of injured players in other clubs only having the 'basic' level of cover, finding that they are many $thousands out of pocket after a serious hockey related injury, when it was found that there was a cap on private medical cover benefits for such as extensive dental injuries, or when there was an extended period of time off work.
Importantly, the club and Hockey WA wishes to point out that there is an easy provision for members to obtain a quote for and if desired paying for 'topping up' (ie upgrading) of their 'basic' level of cover described. This is done through the Hockey WA website. The additional cost is very economic as it is part of a group plan with considerable bulk purchasing power, that could not be purchased stand alone at that price. By providing the 'basic' cover, the club provides its members with a means to upgrade individual levels of insured cover. This can easily be achieved on-line in the one interactive internet session, with the issue of a player log-in and password issued either by the club administrator or Hockey WA finance dept staff, starting by clicking on a link on the Hockey WA website. The website will quote you an additional premium, which can then paid for with the use of a credit card (if a credit card is not available , the plan broker will need to be contacted for other payment arrangements to be made).Individual members can upgrade their personal injury cover in this manner on or after 18th April 2009.
Finally, the club stresses again that
this is an important matter for each member to consider and to
take personal responsibility for (including parents/guardians
of juniors). It is too late once the injury has occurred to be
realizing that the member has not had sufficient insurance cover
for personal injury from hockey.
