CLUB HISTORY

Bunbury Ex Students Hockey Club Inc was originally formed in 1932 by Ex Students of Bunbury Senior High School. In forming the Hockey Club, the colours of the High School being Maroon, Royal Blue and White were adopted as the colours of the newly formed club along with the High School Crest and Motto ( En Avant).

En Avant means Ever Forward and that is the direction that Exies pursue.

Exies as the club is affectionately known, are the oldest club in the Bunbury Hockey Association and have had a colourful and successful history. In deed Exies rank as one of the most successful clubs in the Bunbury Hockey Association.

Some of the highlights of the past few years include being the 1st Club to win a premiership on the newly laid sand turf, the 1st club to win a premiership on the newly laid wet surface and the 1st club to win a premiership in the newly created South West Hockey League which draws on sides from throughout the South West of WA.

In 1990, Exies purchased their own small clubrooms which were renovated by the members and set up as a total club facility.

Unfortunately,  the Clubrooms were broken into in 1997 and set alight virtually destroying the whole building. With an insurance payout of $20,000, the members and supporters set about rebuilding and refurbishing the facility.

This has now been acheived and the facility is used as a starting and finishing point for training being that the premises are situated close to the Hockey Association.Exies are the only local club to have their own facility.

On Thursday Nights, Exies veterans prepare and serve supper to all the players and members at no cost.

The club rooms are utilised for most club functions and are also used by a local Soccer Club and a local Cricket Club when the fixtures do not clash.

Exies have an extensive interest in the Dalyellup area and draw many of our Juniors and Seniors from within as well as from all other areas. School catchment areas include:

  • Cooinda Primary School
  • Dalyellup Primary School
